New Remixes

To listen click on the players below. You can also see what other people thought of it and one click will take you to a beatport.com page where you can buy any or all of the tracks.

And I do have some exciting remix projects that I'm working on now, so be sure to subscribe to my site via the RSS button to the right of this page and you'll be the first to hear them.

POSH! The Prince "Re-Bokk Robot" (Batty Bass)

When Hannah Holland from Batty Bass played me POSH's original I was desperate to remix it. With a vocal like that its a gift to remix, and the problem lies in which direction to take.

I tried loads and loads of different ideas with this remix and binned them all before settling on this version. Romanthony's early work has had a massive influence on me, and the main bass/synth line is a reference to the 1994 classic "Let Me Show You Love".

Radio Slave "Orchestrating Manoeuvres in The Dark" (Om Records)

This track was signed by Om as part of their 15th birthday release. The original is a great tool with an insanely catchy groove and some weird live percussion samples and showcases Radio Slave's genius in creating so much from so little.

But remixing groove based tracks can be tricky as it's often hard to stamp your own identity on them while retaining enough of the flavour of the original. From the first listening I knew I had to keep the main tuned percussion riff as a constant throughout my mix, as a way of keeping it relevant to the original.

I then went through the live percussion samples (of which there were many), and pulled out some cool vibraphone chords which when I played them in a certain way created a spooky "ascending" motif. The trick was then to create a fat groove around these 2 main elements.

R-Tem "Miss You So" feat Nata TJ (Baroque Records)

The first thing to think about when remixing a song is what you're going to do with the vocal. We all know that many house and techno DJs won't play a full vocal, so I cut up the vox samples and used them in a totally different way to the original.

You can't really tell on first listen, but apart from the kick and bass end nearly every sound in this remix comes from the original vocal parts, even some of the high end percussion, originally the "s"'s and "t"'s.
