If you're wondering what Yoppul means, its a word from the Isle of Wight dialect meaning "useless talk, incessant gabble". I found out about some of the wonderful words from this dialect whilst on the ferry to the Isle Of Wight when I was about to play at Bestival a couple of years ago. When you listen to the track you'll understand why I called it that.
Recently I've been influenced by the tropical rhythms that are ubiquitous here in London at the moment, and Yoppul is my much housier take on the sound. I'd been working on the ideas for some time and for some reason didn't seem able to finish them until I tried the rhythm that underpins it now. It seemed to work really well with the odd vocal thing that goes on in the middle of the track.
On the other hand Touch was one of those tracks that came out fast. I think it took me a couple of sessions in total. It started with the bassline and I hung the various other elements around it. I made the bass sound in the excellent FXpansion Strobe plugin, part of the DCAM Synth Squad suite of synths and one of the only soft synths I have that gets close to sounding analogue.
The only delay I had was working out that it was completely finished as usually my tunes have much more troubled births! When I played it to my homie Will Saul I realised it was done, as he loved it and even wanted it for his Simple Records.
Feel originally had a vocal in it, and I just ran off a dub version of it just in case. It was lucky I did as in the end the Get Physical boys weren't feeling the vocal so I was happy to give them the dub for the digital exclusive. I already have some other exciting plans for that vocal...
